Etymology
Common Germanic, from Indo-European *oktÅ(u)- âeightâ. Cognate with Old High German ahto (German acht), Old Saxon ahto (Dutch acht), Old Norse átta (Swedish Ã¥tta), Gothic ð°ð·ðð°ð¿; and, outside the Germanic languages, with Sanskrit ठषà¥à¤, Greek á½ÎºÏÏ, Latin octo, Albanian tetë, Old Irish ocht (Irish hocht), Old Slavic osmâ (Russian воÑемÑ).
