Germanic *falwo-, falwa-, from Indo-European *pel-.
Cognate with Old Saxon falu (Dutch vaal), Old High German falo (German fahl), Old Norse fÇ«lr. The common Germanic is cognate with Latin pallere and Greek ÏολιÏÏ.
