IRC channel
From Fresh Dictionary
You can chat with other users from all the Wiktionary projects, at the Wiktionary IRC channel. It is on the server irc.freenode.org in the room #wiktionary. You will need to obtain a chat client. There are many, but mIRC and Chatzilla are among the most popular. Chatzilla seems to be better at displaying the non-English text that occasionally comes up in discussions, while mIRC is more basic.
Then come on in and say hello. People join this channel from different time zones all over the world, so please try at a few different hours if you don't find anyone to talk to right away. We welcome new company from Wiktionary and its sister projects.
There is an additional read-only channel with a feed of Recentchanges. It is at Recentchanges IRC, which is the #en.wiktionary channel on browne.wikimedia.org. The Counter Vandalism Unit has established a vandalism channel #vandalism-en-wt.
Many Wiktionary IRC users also find it helpful to install one of the many IRC scripts available for download. They make it possible to link to Wiktionary pages simply by including [[wiki-style links]]. Since most of these scripts were written with Wikipedia in mind, it is necessary to edit them to say "wiktionary" instead of "wikipedia" if you want them to point to Wiktionary articles by default.
Further instructions on obtaining and using IRC can be found on the meta-wiki. You can also view a list of Wiki-related channels.
