Etymology
First attested in 1604, in modern sense since 1665, from French idiosyncrasie < Greek ιδιοÏÏ Î³ÎºÏαÏία "personal temperament" < Î¯Î´Î¹Î¿Ï "personal," "private" (see also idiot, idiom) + ÏÏγκÏαÏÎ¹Ï "blending", from ÏÏ Î½- "together" + κÏάÏÎ¹Ï "mixture."
