jerryrig (past tense: jerryrigged)

  1. To assemble a mechanical or electrical device in a hasty, low-quality manner, especially when cheap, low-quality, or inapproprate materials are used.
  2. To assemble a mechanical or electrical device in a fundamentally unsafe manner, usually in such a way that the device is doomed to failure.
  3. To fix a mechanical or electrical device in the above manners.

Usage note

The word jerryrig only applies to mechanical or electrical devices. Inanimate objects built in the above manner are said to by jerrybuilt.
