Etymology
Christ is a respelling of Middle English Crist < Old English CrÄ«st < Latin Christus < Greek ÏÏιÏÏÏÏ ("anointed").

- A name for Jesus of Nazareth, a Torah-observant Jewish man who Christians believe to be the Messiah (Christ). Christ is not a name, but a title meaning "anointed (as the Messiah)". The actual English translation of the name is most likely, "Joshua."
