Etymology
From Chinese åæ (simplified and traditional); pinyin: JÃlÃn; Wade-Giles: Chi-lin; the word probably originates from jilin wula (T: åæçæ / S: åæä¹æ), the Chinese transcription of a Manchu term meaning "along the river"; the literal meaning of the Chinese characters for "Jilin" is "auspicious forest".
