to macerate (third-person singular simple present macerates, present participle macerating, simple past macerated, past participle macerated)

  1. To soften (something), or separate (something) into pieces, by immersion in a liquid
  2. To make lean; to cause to waste away.
  3. To subdue the appetites of by poor and scanty diet; to mortify.
