Etymology
From latinized Greek Oceanus, from Ancient Greek ΩκεανÏÏ (okeanos) "ocean", from ÏκÏÏ (okys) "fast, quick, swift" + Î½Î¬Ï (nao) " to flow, to flux". In Greek mythology ΩκεανÏÏ was the first-born of the Titans, the personification of the god ΩκεανÏÏ Î Î¿ÏαμÏÏ "River Ocean", that encircled the earth.
