Etymology
From Middle English < Old English < Latin October (eighth month) < Latin octo (eight) < Proto-Indo-European base *octo(u)- (twice four); + Latin -ber from -bris, an adjectival suffix. The old Roman calendar began the year in March (spring), and October was the eighth month.
