off-season

  1. That part of the year when business is most slack and there are fewest clients or visitors
    • Seaside resorts in the off-season are really depressing
  2. (sports) Period of time when regular competitions are not being held.
  3. (bodybuilding): Period when a bodybuilder is not preparing for a competition and so is not in contest shape. Some bodybuilders use this time to bulk up, putting on weight at the expense of gaining considerable body fat that will need to be dropped before the next contest.
