Official list of English two-letter words acceptable in the board game Scrabble

  • This list gives all the English two-letter words playable in Scrabble according to the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary and Official Scrabble Words International, each of which list all permissible words from two up to about nine letters in length.

Notes

  1. ch, although valid for Scrabble, is not an actual word; rather, it is an obsolete stem appended to verbs and meaning "I", as in "cham" (I am) and "chave" (I have), included in Scrabble because the dictionary used to compile the English word lists (falsely) gives it as a word.
  2. pH is permitted because none of the dictionaries used to compile the word lists say that it is an abbreviation, and, further, it does not begin with a capital letter. None of the other reasons for excluding words from the list of acceptable words apply either, and so the word is considered valid for use in Scrabble.
  3. The Dictionary Committee of the National Scrabble Association (of North America) has added five two-letter words to the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary: fe, ki, oi, qi, and za. Oi and qi were already allowed in Official Scrabble Words International. The changes are expected to take effect early in 2006.
