Etymology

Prefix "palaeo-" (from greek 'palaios'= "old") and "tropical" (from greek 'tropikos', referring to where the length of the day equals that of the night)

Noun

  1. The tropics of "the old world", the tropical areas of both Africa and Asia. Used in biology (rare), pertaining to area of geographical occurrence. Plural only.
