Etymology

Prefix "pan-" (greek 'pas', 'pantos'= "all") and "tropical" (from greek 'tropikos', referring to where the length of the day equals that of the night)

Adjective

  1. Occurring in tropical areas on all the major continents, i.e. in Africa, Asia and America, in 'all' the tropical regions. Used in biology, pertaining to area of geographical occurrence.
