Use

Feudal title for the vassals of various rulers of princely states in former British India, often both hindu, but influenced by a muslim paramount sultanate (especially the mughal empire), as the lofty title amir was used there for official members of the ruler's formal council, who often also held an important feudal tenure, such as a jagir, a thaluka, a mansab
