Latin vacill re, vacill t-, to waver.

Intransitive Verb

vac·il·lat·e (vacillated, vacillating, vacillates)

  1. To sway from one side to the other; oscillate.
  2. To swing indecisively from one course of action or opinion to another. (synonym: hesitation)
  3. To be changeable or inconsistent in speech or action.
