Etymology
From French zéro < Italian zero < Mediaeval Latin zephirum < Arabic ØµÙØ± (á¹£ifr) ânothing, cipherâ.

Pronunciation note
In certain areas, to save time or to keep a rhythm in pronouncing repeated digits, the pronunciation of zero is often shortened to that of the letter O. This is common in saying telephone numbers, or words such as "007".
